A tragic accident at Mallam Junction has claimed the lives of three traders. The victims were selling along the roadside when a commercial vehicle (trotro) with registration number AS 4719-18, traveling from Gbawe Zero, lost control and veered into them.
The driver’s failure to navigate the vehicle due to brake failure resulted in the devastating crash.
The trotro, which was heading from Gbawe Zero, reportedly experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently rammed into the traders, who were unsuspectingly going about their business.
While some traders managed to escape the approaching vehicle, three unfortunate individuals were trapped underneath it. Despite efforts to rescue them, they sadly succumbed to their injuries.
The incident highlights the dangers of roadside trading and the importance of ensuring vehicle safety to prevent such tragedies. The community is in mourning, and the victims’ families are receiving support and condolences.
In the past years, government of Ghana has been trying its best to move sellers from the streets and roadsides. Traders usually protest on grounds that it is their source of livelihood. Some also indicate that they get sales when they sell on such areas.
