Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is set to undergo further medical treatment abroad following a sudden health issue that required urgent attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
According to an official statement from the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, the Vice President fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025, and was taken to UGMC the following day for medical evaluation and care.
Although details of her condition remain undisclosed, the statement confirmed that medical experts have advised additional treatment outside the country to support her full recovery.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Minister for Government Communications, assured the public that the Vice President is receiving the necessary care.
“We extend our best wishes to the Vice President for a speedy recovery,” it concluded.
The news of her health situation has drawn reactions from Ghanaians, with many sending messages of goodwill and prayers for her recovery.
While the exact nature of her ailment remains private, political analysts suggest that any prolonged absence could have implications, given her key role in governance.
Her upcoming medical treatment abroad highlights concerns about Ghana’s healthcare system, as it is common for top government officials to seek specialized care outside the country.
However, the Presidency has not specified when or where the Vice President will travel for further medical attention.
For now, the nation waits for further updates, hoping for her swift return to full health.
