During the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration organized by the NDC, a group of protesters decided to visit the National Cathedral construction site to observe the progress of the much-talked-about project.
To their surprise, instead of seeing a bustling construction zone, they were greeted by a massive pit filled with stagnant water, signalling a halt in the construction activities.
In a video that has quickly gone viral on social media, the protesters can be seen making the most of the unexpected sight by splashing around in the water-filled pit.
What was initially a somber and serious protest moment turned into an amusing and playful scene, as the group took a break from their demands to enjoy the impromptu swim.
The ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration took place on September 17 across regional capitals in Ghana, with the opposition party calling for a forensic audit of the country’s electoral roll.
The NDC has long voiced concerns about the accuracy and integrity of the voter register, which they argue is riddled with errors and inconsistencies.
They believe that a thorough audit is the only way to restore faith in Ghana’s electoral process and ensure free and fair elections.
The NDC insists that their demand for the audit is non-negotiable, claiming it is crucial for upholding the credibility of the country’s democracy. Several other political stakeholders and civil society groups have echoed this call, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to take action.
However, the EC has dismissed these calls as unnecessary, stating last week that there is no basis for the demands and describing them as misguided.
As the political climate in Ghana intensifies ahead of upcoming elections, the NDC remains steadfast in its call for reforms, while the viral moment at the cathedral site adds an unexpected twist to the ongoing protests.
