Afrobeats superstar Davido took the stage in Ethiopia as the nation welcomed its New Year, known as Enkutatash, marking the arrival of 2017.
Ethiopia follows a calendar that places the birth of Jesus Christ seven or eight years later than the widely used Gregorian calendar, which means their New Year is celebrated on either September 11 or 12, depending on the occurrence of a leap year.
Davido’s lively performance was a key feature of the celebrations, captivating the audience with his energetic music and stage presence. The crowd responded enthusiastically, adding to the already vibrant atmosphere of the Ethiopian New Year festivities.
In a social media post following the event, Davido expressed his gratitude, stating that the night in Ethiopia was amazing.
His performance quickly went viral, drawing humorous reactions from fans across social media. Some jokingly commented that it appeared as though Davido had traveled back in time to perform for an audience still living in 2017, referencing the country’s unique calendar.
Several Nigerians joined the conversation, with many amusingly discussing the idea of visiting Ethiopia to “reverse time” and correct past mistakes.
Davido’s performance, alongside other notable artists, turned the New Year celebration into a grand and memorable occasion, full of excitement, music, and joy as Ethiopia welcomed 2017.
