A growing number of Ghanaians are expressing dissatisfaction with Nicholas Omane Acheampong, the gospel artist turned NPP supporter, following his recent statements about the galamsey issue.
Acheampong has controversially blamed the opposition NDC for the widespread illegal mining crisis that has been devastating the country’s environment.
Galamsey, or illegal mining, has led to significant pollution of water sources and destruction of natural resources, leaving many communities without access to clean water.
In light of these severe environmental impacts, Acheampong has accused the NDC of orchestrating the crisis.
He alleges that the party facilitated the entry of foreign miners into Ghana and provided them with the means to conduct illegal mining operations.
Acheampong claims this was a strategic move by the NDC to undermine the current NPP administration and tarnish its reputation.
Adding fuel to the fire, Acheampong suggested that even if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had taken action by deploying military forces to tackle the illegal mining, the foreign miners would have posed as soldiers to sabotage the NPP government further.
According to Acheampong, this would have been a deliberate attempt by the NDC to discredit the ruling party and create further chaos.
Acheampong’s comments have sparked a backlash from the public, with many accusing him of deflecting blame rather than addressing the core issues of the galamsey crisis.
Critics argue that shifting blame to the opposition does little to solve the pressing problem and detracts from the need for effective measures to combat illegal mining and safeguard Ghana’s natural resources.
The controversy underscores the increasing frustration with how the galamsey issue is being managed and highlights the broader dissatisfaction with political figures’ handling of the crisis.
