A budding musician has made a shocking allegation against popular artist Black Sherif, claiming that he stole his song. The underground artist, in a shared a video on social media detailed the alleged copyright infringement.
According to the musician, he had reached out to Black Sherif for assistance on his music career, and in the process, shared his song lyrics with him. However, to his surprise, Black Sherif allegedly hurriedly released a song with a similar melody and lyrics without giving due credit or compensation.
In the video, the musician presented supposed evidence of sending the lyrics to Black Sherif and his mother, who corroborated his claims. The musician’s mother appeared in the video, confirming that her son had indeed sent the lyrics to Black Sherif and expressing her disappointment in the alleged theft.
Social media users reacted with skepticism and disbelief, with some questioning the authenticity of the WhatsApp chat evidence presented. “Lol, anyone can create a WhatsApp chat…if you carefully look at the chat, he was introducing himself to Blacko. How come he has Blacko’s number like they were friends?” wrote one user.
Others expressed sympathy for the underground musician, “I’m feeling very bad for the poor boy. Why would Blacko steal the boy’s song when he only wanted help from him?” Another user pointed out, “This story is two-sided, it could or might not be true. Blacko is human like everyone else.”
Some users called for Black Sherif to settle the matter with the musician, “If the lyrics are really for the guy, make Blacko settle him and work with him to write songs for him.” Others questioned the timing of the accusation, “Where was he when Blacko posted the teaser some weeks ago? Why didn’t he come out earlier after the release of the teaser?”
The debate continues, with some urging the musician to take legal action, “U get time, give these underground people. Make he take am go court and stop the gyimiii no.” Others remained unconvinced, “I don’t see any truth in this. How did the boy hit Blacko’s number and chat him like his friend bi? I think Blacko has management, so why not reach out to the management? This story no dey add up.”
