Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay is urging the public to approach a viral video involving a Russian man and Ghanaian women with understanding rather than condemnation.
Taking a moment on stage during her February 16, 2026, performance, she spoke directly to her audience about the controversy.
She explained that the incident reflects deep-rooted cultural messages passed down from generation to generation.
“What happened was a result of what our grandparents and our parents kept in our minds. They made us feel like ‘white’ people or foreigners are more human than we the blacks. What happened to the women could actually happen to anyone at all,” she observed.
The singer urged people to focus on justice and understanding rather than shaming the women publicly.
“I’m pleading that you should minimize criticizing them because they’re also humans. I feel this is the time that we can all come together and arrest the man.
“I think his mission was to make people have the perception that African women are cheap, but we are not cheap,” she stressed.
Wendy Shay concluded by calling on Ghanaians to support the women emotionally and help them recover from the ordeal.
“This is due to what we were fed on since childhood, so we should all come together to help these women heal,” she further stated.
