Kumasi-based figure Lion Spirito has publicly declared his departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that he no longer identifies as a member. Speaking on Sikka FM monitored by News and Vibes during an interview with Bullet, Spirito described the ruling party as “wicked” and criticized their treatment of loyal supporters.
He recalled how he and his associates sacrificed much for the NPP, especially in the period leading up to President Akufo Addo’s rise to power. Spirito revealed that without their efforts, many, including himself and his group, might have faced imprisonment. Their support was instrumental in the party’s eventual victory.
However, Spirito expressed deep disappointment that after the NPP won, neither the president nor party leaders reached out to acknowledge or thank them. Feeling neglected and unappreciated, Spirito cited this as a key factor behind his decision to sever ties with the NPP and instead throw his support behind the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His announcement marks a significant political shift and raises questions about internal party loyalty and recognition.
