The Ghana Football Association has strengthened its commercial portfolio with a new five-year partnership with X1 Energy Drink, naming the company as the Official Beverage Partner of the Black Stars in a deal announced at the FA’s headquarters in Accra.

The agreement, which comes at a critical build-up period to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, combines both financial investment and product supply, underlining a growing shift towards integrated sponsorship models within Ghanaian football.

The GFA President, Kurt Simeon-Okraku, welcomed the partnership as a strategic boost to the association’s commercial drive.

“We are delighted to welcome X1 Energy Drink into our family of sponsors,” he said, signalling the FA’s intent to deepen private-sector engagement around the national team.

From the sponsor’s perspective, the deal is positioned as more than a branding exercise. Richard Zhang, Head of X1 Global, framed the partnership within a broader vision of sport and lifestyle alignment.

“We are thrilled to partner the Ghana Football Association. Football is a significant part of our culture and supporting the GFA aligns with our commitment to promoting sports and healthy living. We believe this partnership will create great synergies and bring immense value to both parties,” he noted.

Crucially, the agreement extends beyond the senior national team. X1 has also been confirmed as the Official Performance Partner for the Division One League Super Cup — a move that broadens its footprint across the domestic football ecosystem.

In a further commercial innovation, Black Stars duo Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu have been named brand ambassadors and equity partners, signalling a deeper athlete-led engagement model that blends endorsement with ownership.

The long-term play, however, lies at the grassroots level. X1 has outlined plans to invest in the construction and refurbishment of ten football pitches nationwide — an intervention that aligns commercial interest with development impact.

With the Black Stars heading into a pivotal World Cup cycle, the partnership positions X1 at the heart of Ghana’s football narrative, while offering the GFA a timely injection of resources, visibility and structural support.
