Ghanaian Dancehall musician Samini has responded to public reactions following his performance at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, addressing claims that he performed offbeat.

According to the artiste, he was not part of the original lineup for the event. He explained that he had returned to Ghana only two days before the ceremony when GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, a close friend, invited him to perform.

Samini noted that his appearance at the awards was an act of support rather than a scheduled performance. However, technical problems on stage affected his sound, making parts of his act appear out of sync to the audience.

He revealed that his in-ear monitors were not functioning properly during the show, a challenge that made it difficult for him to stay on tempo. Samini stressed that such issues are common during live events where multiple elements are being coordinated simultaneously.

The awards ceremony, held on November 8, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, marked the first time the GJA Awards took place outside Accra. It was a night of glitz and recognition for outstanding journalists, with TV3’s Godwin Asediba emerging as the 2024 Journalist of the Year.

The prestigious event, hosted under the patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was attended by several distinguished guests, including former President John Dramani Mahama, Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and KGL Group Executive Chairman Alex Apau Dadey.
