The Savannah Regional Police Intelligence Department has arrested 24 Togolese nationals for their alleged involvement in illegal mining (Galamsey) activities within the West Gonja Municipality.
The arrest was carried out on Friday, January 23, 2026, after police intercepted a Kia truck with registration number BA 223-12, driven by Abdul Majeed Yakubu.
During preliminary questioning, the occupants of the vehicle admitted to being citizens of Togo. They further disclosed that they were travelling to Tuntumba, a community widely associated with illegal mining activities, with the intention of engaging in galamsey operations.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service to undergo the appropriate immigration and legal processes.
The Savannah Regional Police Intelligence Department has confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates will be communicated as the case develops.
