Ashanti Regional Fire Service Overwhelmed by Prank Calls

The Ashanti Regional Fire Service is grappling with a significant rise in prank calls, a situation that poses serious risks to emergency response operations.

According to the regional commander, ACFOII Peter Teteh, the service receives more than 100 prank calls daily.

In an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson FM, Teteh explained that these false alarms make it increasingly difficult for firefighters to distinguish between real emergencies and hoaxes.

This, he warned, could delay critical responses and potentially cost lives.

Teteh expressed concern that continuous prank calls may desensitise emergency teams, leading to slower reaction times during genuine crises.

He urged the public to refrain from making such calls, stressing the importance of allowing the service to focus on legitimate emergencies.

The commander’s remarks have drawn attention to the need for stricter measures to deter prank calls and ensure the fire service can respond promptly when lives and property are at stake.
