A social media user has accused Abena Magis, widely known as Abena Manokekame, and her brother, John Kwesi Odoom, of defrauding him of Gh¢50,000 in a travel-related scam.
According to the accuser, the ordeal began in 2023 when Abena shared a Telegram group link promoting a travel and tour opportunity handled by her brother.
Within the group, a job opportunity in Canada was advertised. Interested in the offer, the netizen visited their office in Kasoa Ofaakor, where he met John Kwesi Odoom.
Following the meeting, the netizen paid Gh¢500 as a registration fee and Gh¢3,000 as an initial payment for the Canada opportunity.
An official receipt bearing Abena Magis’ name was issued, which reassured him given Abena’s public image as a philanthropist.
However, complications soon followed. The complainant claims that when he later contacted Abena for updates, he was informed that the Canada opportunity had been withdrawn.
Instead, he was presented with an alternative job offer in the Cayman Islands, with a service charge of Gh¢36,000.
The accuser now claims that despite paying the additional amount, the promised travel arrangement did not materialise. Repeated efforts to get clarification or a refund have reportedly failed, leading to suspicions of fraud.
The allegations have ignited discussions online, with many questioning the legitimacy of such travel opportunities promoted by public figures. Calls for Abena Magis and her brother to respond to the claims have intensified as the story continues to spread on social media.
