‘God is Not in a Transactional Business’ – Man Explains Why He Stopped Tithing

Published:

In a TikTok video that has gone viral, a Nigerian man has shared his personal philosophy on tithing and its role in religion, arguing that God does not operate in a transactional manner when it comes to faith and blessings.

The man, identified as Itzchrisisikweihe, has become a talking point across social media after revealing that he stopped paying tithe and offering in church—only to experience what he describes as an “exponential growth” in his life, particularly in his finances.

For many religious believers, tithing is seen as a crucial part of their spiritual life, an offering made to the church as a demonstration of faith, with the promise of blessings in return.

However, Itzchrisisikweihe has challenged this idea, asserting that the belief that paying tithes guarantees God’s blessings is misguided.

In his video, he explains that he once held the same belief, thinking that financial contributions to the church were necessary to receive divine rewards.

“But one fateful night, I was angry,” he recalled. “I had given everything I had, but nothing was coming forth. I wasn’t seeing any change in my life.”

This moment of frustration led him to question the foundations of his faith. His pivotal realization was that if his earthly father could give him everything without expecting anything in return, why would God—who is supposed to love unconditionally—require such a transactional approach?

“I asked myself one question: if my earthly father could afford everything I have, expecting nothing from me, how much more my heavenly father?”

This question led Itzchrisisikweihe to a moment of clarity that would change his perspective on religion and his relationship with money.

In an effort to test his beliefs, he made a bold decision: to stop paying tithe and offering while continuing to attend church. Rather than his life regressing, he claims that his financial situation and personal growth took a positive turn, which reinforced his conviction that tithing and giving to the church are not prerequisites for God’s blessings.

“Since that day, there has been exponential growth in my life, including my finances,” he said.

For him, his relationship with God is not about giving in exchange for blessings, but about faith, trust, and a sense of spiritual freedom that doesn’t rely on monetary exchanges.

He has since used his story to encourage others to rethink their approach to religion and giving, particularly in light of what he sees as widespread exploitation under the guise of faith.

“They used every way to get money from us. They made it look as though God is in a transactional business with us,” he said, adding that this exploitation left him disillusioned and questioning the authenticity of certain church practices.

While many viewers have supported his stance, praising him for his honesty and courage in challenging long-held beliefs, others have criticized him, accusing him of misinterpreting the role of tithing in the Christian faith.
