A young lady, estimated to be in her 20s, was apprehended by residents after being caught on CCTV footage stealing GHS40,000 from a mobile money vendor.
The surveillance footage showed the lady allegedly making away with the large sum of money, leading to her identification and subsequent capture.
In a viral video, the lady is seen being questioned and harassed by a group of people, who are demanding answers and justice.
Social media users have reacted with outrage and disbelief, with many calling for harsh punishment. “But women are privileged ooo…if it were a man, some slaps would have landed already,” said one user.
Another commented, “The annoying thing is she’ll be buying wigs and an iPhone with it.”
Some users shared personal experiences, “I’m glad she’s been caught. These people are very wicked. A friend of mine is in prison because someone stole 50,000 Ghana cedis due to people like her.”
Others took a more nuanced approach, “Don’t blame her, but rather the system we’re in right now.”
Some users joked, “Be man like two slaps would have landed already at Kotoka” while others blamed social media influence, “Blame TikTok and slay queens for this. She’ll come to TikTok and advise lazy youth.”
