Evangelist Samuel Nyamekye, Chief Executive Officer of Miracle Films and a respected figure in Ghana’s film industry, has expressed strong confidence in the leadership of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
Following a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Kumasi focused on the revival of Kumawood, Nyamekye believes the young politician holds the key to restoring the industry’s former glory.
During an interview with Akoma FM on 20 February 2025, Nyamekye praised Dr. Amoakohene’s exceptional commitment to reviving the local film industry.
According to him, no previous regional minister in Ashanti has shown such determination to support Kumawood, a vibrant industry that once dominated Ghana’s entertainment scene but has seen a decline in recent years.
Nyamekye highlighted Dr. Amoakohene’s innovative plans aimed at breathing new life into Kumawood. Among these measures is a proposal to erect billboards showcasing Kumawood stars, similar to strategies employed in Nigeria to promote their film industry.
This, he believes, will motivate local talent and reduce the trend of Kumawood actors relocating to Accra due to limited opportunities in Kumasi.
“He is a wise man. Since establishing Kumawood in Kumasi in the early ‘90s, no regional minister has taken such a bold step to engage stakeholders. Dr. Amoakohene’s approach demonstrates that he genuinely cares about the growth and sustainability of the industry,” Nyamekye remarked.
Nyamekye further expressed optimism that these planned initiatives, if successfully implemented, could help Kumawood regain its position as a major contributor to Ghana’s creative economy. However, he noted that even if some of the minister’s promises are not fully realised, the effort and passion shown by Dr. Amoakohene deserve commendation.
“Even if all the promises are not fulfilled, I wouldn’t be disappointed. The passion and respect he demonstrated toward us during the meeting were truly moving,” he concluded.
Dr. Amoakohene’s engagement with the Kumawood industry has sparked renewed discussions on how regional policies can influence the creative sector’s revival. Industry players and fans alike are hopeful that these fresh commitments will translate into tangible progress, marking a new chapter for Kumawood’s future.
