The World Health Organisation has observed that the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, provides the public trust necessary for the success of health programmes in Ghana.

This statement was made by the new WHO Country Director for Ghana, Dr Fiona Braka, during a courtesy call on the Asantehene at Manhyia Palace on April 22, 2026.

“As the government implements programmes, you provide the trust that is extremely necessary for the success of any programme because when you speak on matters of health, the people listen,” Dr Braka said.

Dr Braka recalled how Otumfuo’s influence amassed public trust toward the COVID-19 vaccination in 2021.

“Your Majesty became the first person in the Ashanti Region to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The trust is the reason why millions of people believed the vaccine was good and safe… We want to acknowledge the significant contribution you make to the success of building this nation,” she said.

She further acknowledged what she called the “immense contribution” of the Otumfuo Foundation to education, entrepreneurship, water and sanitation, and health.

“Through the Otumfuo Foundation, you have transformed healthcare not only in the Asante Kingdom but beyond through the refurbishment of health facilities, maternal and childcare outreaches and donations of lifesaving equipment,” Dr Braka stated.
