President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed that his administration successfully addressed Ghana’s erratic power crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor.”
Speaking during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, he reflected on his pledge a decade ago to resolve the power shortages, which had significantly impacted businesses and livelihoods.
“Yesterday, February 26, 2025, marked exactly ten years since I stood in this chamber at this very spot to declare my intention to resolve dumsor, a legacy problem of power shortages,” he stated.
Mahama maintained that by the time he left office in January 2017, the issue had been resolved, with stable power supply restored across the country.
“Mr Speaker, I fixed it. Yes, I promised to fix it, and I did. From January 2016 until I handed over the administration of this country on January 7, 2017, there was no power rationing or load management in Ghana,” he asserted.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the true state of Ghana’s power supply, with some citizens still questioning whether the issue has been entirely eliminated.
