Two invigilators in Jinijini, Bono Region, were arrested on July 8, 2024, for allegedly sharing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) questions on WhatsApp.
According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the invigilators were found with phones containing screenshots of the ongoing exam paper, which they had posted on WhatsApp platforms.
WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, confirmed that the invigilators were handed over to the police and their phones seized as evidence.
This incident highlights the council’s commitment to ensuring exam integrity and punishing those who compromise it.
The arrest of the two invigilators in Bono Region serves as a strong warning to others who might attempt to engage in similar malpractices.
With over 500,000 students, including both school and private candidates, set to take the BECE from July 8, 2024, at 2,123 centers nationwide, WAEC is committed to ensuring a fair and secure examination process.
The exam, which runs until July 15, 2024, will be administered under strict supervision, reflecting WAEC’s dedication to upholding the highest standards.
This year’s exam marks a significant milestone, as it’s the first to be based on the newly introduced common core curriculum.
Meanwhile, three teachers in Anwiankwanta, Ashanti Region, were also arrested on July 8, 2024, for allegedly possessing answer keys to the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on their phones.
