The legal dispute between gospel singer Empress Gifty and Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has taken a surprising turn as Empress Gifty’s lawyer has announced he is no longer pursuing an apology over recent defamatory remarks.
Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi, lead counsel for the gospel artiste, had earlier demanded a formal retraction after a video circulated showing Agradaa referring to him dismissively following a court appearance. The demand was issued through an official letter dated June 16, 2025, shortly after the video gained traction online.
However, at a press briefing held on July 16, 2025, Tawiah-Amprofi disclosed that he and his legal team have decided not to pursue the matter further. He explained that this decision followed what he interpreted as a gesture of remorse from Agradaa, prompting him and his law firm to put the issue behind them.
This development comes amid a larger legal battle still unfolding between Empress Gifty and the embattled evangelist. In May 2025, Gifty filed a GH¢20 million defamation suit against Agradaa, stemming from a social media broadcast in which offensive allegations were made against her. The claims, which included crude accusations of immoral conduct, led to a legal standoff that continues despite Agradaa’s recent imprisonment.
In June, the Tema High Court ruled against Agradaa’s request to dismiss the defamation case, ordering her to pay GH¢6,000 in costs. Although she is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for fraud, the defamation proceedings remain active.
After the most recent hearing, Agradaa’s lawyers submitted a motion requesting that the case be moved from Tema to a court closer to her current location in the Eastern Region. They cited difficulties involved in regularly transporting her from the Nsawam prison facility to Accra for court appearances.
While the apology matter may now be considered resolved by Empress Gifty’s legal team, the defamation trial is expected to proceed, keeping the legal dispute in the public eye.
